Baby, it's cold outside.

We survived the darkest days of the year… and now winter has officially decided to show up.

Late January is when North Texas finally remembers it is, in fact, winter. As a lifelong Texas girl, I can tell you—when it’s Stock Show & Rodeo time, it gets cold. Every. Single. Year. Like clockwork.

Instead of fighting it, what if we embraced it?

Cold weather naturally invites us to slow down. To pull inward. To rest a little deeper. This isn’t the season for forcing productivity or white-knuckling your schedule. It’s a season for warmth, reflection, and nervous system resets.

Yoga philosophy gives us a perfect lens for moments like this: Aparigraha.

Aparigraha is one of the Yamas—the ethical foundations of yoga—and it translates most simply as non-grasping, non-attachment, or non-possessiveness. At its core, Aparigraha is the practice of trust.
Trust that when you loosen your grip, life doesn’t fall apart—it actually breathes.

And here’s the neuroscience tie-in I love sharing in class and in real life:
When we cling—whether it’s to plans, control, schedules, or expectations—the brain reads it as threat. The nervous system shifts into a stress response.

When we practice letting go, we simulate a relaxation response.

Translation?
More clarity. Better decision-making. Way less reactivity.

Yoga philosophy says something beautiful here:
When you stop grasping, wisdom arises naturally. You don’t have to chase insight—it shows up when you make space.

It’s never an easy call to cancel classes for a day or two. We love practicing together. However, safety will always come first—because yoga only works when you can actually get to it safely.

Here’s the good news: as a Sunshine member, you always have access to our online class library. Your practice doesn’t disappear just because the weather gets dramatic. If you don’t see the library in your app, simply email me and I’ll help you get connected.

If you’re staying home, use this time intentionally. Catch up on the things you usually rush past. Journal. Meditate. Take a longer savasana in your living room. Cuddle up. Get some real downtime.

If you have to be out in the cold, stay safe.

Our lives are often loud and fast. Winter gives us permission to pause.

So take this weekend and embrace the cold. Let it be a reset instead of a disruption. Hibernate a little. Restore your energy.

Get ready—because brighter days are ahead, literally.

Stay warm. Stay safe.
And we’ll see you soon. ☀️

Dearest Yogis,

You know me as the owner and a teacher here at Sunshine. However, over the past few years, my life has expanded beyond the studio in some really meaningful ways. I’ve added a few causes to my weekly schedule that matter deeply to me—and now I’m asking you to get involved, either with your time, your support, or yes… your wallet (no shame, every bit counts).

Also, I serve as an Ambassador for Mansfield Cares, a local charity making big things happen. Mansfield Cares supports 13 area food banks, provides weekend and summer meals for children, helps kids start the school year with new shoes, and offers emergency assistance to families in need. Every dollar raised stays right here in Mansfield. You can support this mission by attending the Charity Gala, purchasing a ticket, or becoming a sponsor.

And last but not least… yes, it’s official—I am a Pickle Queen 🥒👑 The Pickle Parade doesn’t happen by magic (or brine). It’s made possible through sponsors and donations, and I would love for you to consider supporting this wildly fun, community-driven event.

Thank you for being part of this community—on the mat and beyond it. Your support truly makes a difference.

With Love, Light, and a Little Sunshine,

Lynn
