yoga together pure magic

Why Practicing Yoga Together Is Pure Magic (And Why We're Grateful for YOU)

There’s something sacred about unrolling your mat next to others. Maybe you’ve felt it—that electric buzz of breath and movement syncing in a room full of people all there for the same reason: to feel better.

At Sunshine Yoga Shack, we’ve seen that magic firsthand, and we’re so humbled and grateful to announce that we’ve been voted Best Yoga Studio for the sixth year in a row.

This award belongs to our community.
To every yogi who has flowed with us, flown in our silks, or melted into savasana on our floor—this is for you.

Why Yoga in a Studio Feels Different

Home practice has its place. YouTube flows are convenient. But practicing in a studio with real humans around you? That’s when yoga becomes a shared experience.

When you move as a group, the energy isn’t just within you—it pulses through the entire room. You feel it in the silence, in the sweat, in the shared sigh of relief in pigeon pose.

This kind of connection reminds us we’re not alone.
We’re in it together—through the challenge, the breathwork, the laughter, and the stillness.

It’s Not Just Yoga—It’s Community

At Sunshine, we believe yoga is more than poses. It’s presence. It’s energy.
And most of all, it’s people.

Thank you for six years of making this studio what it is: a place of transformation, joy, and connection.

If you’ve been practicing at home and you’re feeling the nudge to return—we’re ready for you. Your mat is waiting. And so is your community.

Meet the Team!

Meet Brandi Simpson:

Hello, I’m Brandi Simpson: yoga teacher by morning, glass blower by day, and animal lover always. I’ve been teaching yoga for three years and love how both yoga and glassblowing demand the same thing: breath, focus, and not being afraid to sweat a little. When I’m not wrangling molten glass or striking a pose, I’m teaching art at UTA and cooking up creative partnerships as the Community Partnership Specialist for a Fort Worth art non-profit. Basically, if it involves art, people, or good vibes, I’m in.

Meet Carrie Schikevitz:

I’m Carrie Schikevitz, Shy-Kuh-Vitz 😊 Native Texan, mother of four humans, three dogs, and two cats, and married to my best friend for 20 years. I’ve spent my whole life taking steps, some big, some small, all to discover a deeper meaning to this wackty little thing called life. From the moment I discovered yoga, meditation, or reiki I was drawn to the infinite possibilities of the human soul and always want to know more, dive deeper, and share what I’ve learned along the way to help others heal and live their lives more fully. I am a birth doula, childbirth educator, yoga instructor, and Reiki Master. I love to support people in all the beautiful phases of life and I hope I get a chance to meet you on the mat 🙏

Meet Emily Rueda:

Hi, I am Emily Rueda! I’m a loving wife, dog mom to my two pugs and plant mom to over 70 houseplants and growing. When I’m not at the studio you can catch me teaching children’s gymnastics (I am very passionate about teaching and have been teaching in some form for about 7 years) . I also enjoy crafting, watching anime or working out at the gym. I have a bachelors in Kinesiology from Tarleton and I spent 8 years of my life dancing my heart out. I am afraid of heights and originally thought dance was my calling but turns out it’s dancing in the air that is my true passion! I tried aerial for the first time 2 years ago and now I can’t imagine life without it. Aerial has helped me build confidence in myself and my abilities as well as give me a practice where I can move and flow in so many cool ways. I hope to share my passion with others and help them find their confidence in the silk🩷

Meet Jessica Cazobon:

Hi! I’m Jessica. I’ve been teaching yoga and aerial yoga since 2019. During my teacher training, I went through a really rough time in my life, and yoga along with my yoga community helped me heal through that tough time. When I first began teaching it was for a drug rehab facility so I not only got to experience the healing power of yoga in my own life but I also witnessed it in the people I got to teach. As an artist, I like to be able to incorporate my creativity into my teaching style. My favorite part about being a yoga teacher is getting to help build a sense of community where people can move and breathe together. When I’m not teaching yoga or painting classes, I’m usually hanging out with my awesome dog Maddie, crocheting, making art, cooking delicious foods, or reading books about dragons and faeries.

Meet Jordan Shelton Clower:

Hi, I’m Jordan. I started practicing yoga in 2012, mostly just looking for a good stretch and a little quiet. What I found was so much more. Over the years, and especially during my struggle with alcohol addiction, yoga became a powerful tool for healing. It helped me reconnect with myself, find peace in the chaos, and build a new foundation in sobriety. Honestly, it changed everything. In 2022, I completed my 200-hour teacher training at Sunshine Yoga Shack, where I fell in love with the depth of the practice and the amazing community that came with it. Yoga has brought me strength, stillness, and the occasional reminder to laugh when I fall out of a pose (which still happens regularly). My classes are grounding, welcoming, and lightly infused with humor, because healing doesn’t always have to be so serious. I hope to offer students a space where they can breathe, move, and feel supported exactly as they are.

Meet Julie Reed:

Hi, I’m Julie Reed — yoga teacher, history nerd, and proud dog mom to two delightfully spoiled wiener dogs. My love affair with yoga didn’t begin in a pristine studio with matching leggings and a perfect headstand. It found me in a moment when I was completely disconnected from my body — after years of trauma had left me living mostly in my head, numbing, avoiding, and surviving. Yoga gently called me back home to myself. Through breath, movement, and stillness, I began releasing the pain and fear I didn’t even realize I was carrying. Bit by bit, pose by pose, I reconnected with my body — and it saved me. It showed me that healing doesn’t have to look a certain way, and that we don’t have to do it alone. Now, as a certified 200-hour yoga teacher, I create classes that are inclusive, a little bit groovy, and full of heart. Whether we’re flowing to soul-soothing tunes or laughing our way through a wobbly balance pose, I believe yoga should feel like freedom — not a performance. My goal is to hold space where you feel safe enough to move how you need to move and show up exactly as you are. Outside the studio, you’ll find me watching history documentaries, nurturing my jungle of 100+ houseplants, or getting overly competitive at board games. I’m passionate about making yoga approachable and joyful, because I truly believe it’s for every body. Let’s breathe, stretch, shake it out, and maybe even dance a little — healing doesn’t have to be heavy all the time. 💕

Meet Katelyn Barr :

Hi, I'm Katelyn! I came across yoga and aerial when i was a teenager during a difficult time in my life and I've been practicing for about 7 years now. I teach aerial, i love it more than anything. Aerial has genuinely saved my life, i love sharing my passion and love for making art in the air with others. I'm happy to build people's confidence and support them throughout their practice. You can catch me every other Sunday at 12pm for Aerial Happy Hour! When I'm not flying and flowing, I'm a part time student studying psychology, i love doing tarot and to read. I model, dance, and perform aerial full time. I have 2 fur babies- 1 precious pitbull and the cutest fluffy cat. I'm a proud aunt and love my 2 nieces to pieces!

Meet Kayle Christian:

Hi! Im Kayla Christian. Last year I married Andrew, the amazing man I’ve been with for the last 6 years. I have a 10 (going on 11) year old daughter and an 18 year old stepson. We have 3 dogs - a chihuahua mix, an Alaskan Malamute, and a lab mix. Monday through Friday I work for a Cybersecurity company as the Manager of the Customer Success team, but Saturday mornings you can find me teaching aerial yoga. I have been with Sunshine Yoga Shack since the beginning and it truly feels like home to me. Yoga helped me find the strength I needed to build my life and become who I am today. As a teacher, I love helping our students get out of their comfort zone, build confidence and courage, and grow through their yoga practice.

Meet Kimberly Stratman:

Hi, I’m Kimberly Stratman. I love helping people help themselves—whether it’s through trauma-informed yoga, essential oil education, or simply holding space for growth and self-discovery. I invite you to explore what you truly want in life, stay open to the journey, and be willing to say yes when the right opportunities show up. When I’m not teaching, you’ll likely find me outside, gardening or spending time with horses and soaking up the healing power of nature.

Lynn Rozak

Meet Lynn Rozak:

Hi, I’m Lynn. I’ve got three amazing adult children, three fur babies who run the house, and one husband who holds my heart. I’m the proud owner of Sunshine Yoga Shack and founder of Sunshine School of Yoga, where we bend, breathe, and laugh a lot. I’ve been on this yoga journey for 24 years—yep, I’ve been downward dogging since dial-up internet was a thing. Along the way, I started a little studio that grew into a big-hearted community. I’ve learned a lot—about business, about people, and about myself. And the learning never stops. Every class, every student, every challenge continues to teach me something new. Whether I’m teaching a fiery vinyasa class, floating in aerial silks, or guiding the next wave of yoga teachers, I’m here to spread light, lift spirits, and help folks reconnect to themselves—one deep breath at a time.

Meet Madison Aguirre:

I’m Madi, I’m a typical tree-hugging, family-oriented, and native Texan yogi. Im a wife and a mother of 2 sons and 2 pups. Yoga found me at age 18, freshly graduated from high school and eager to be independent. What started as something fun and challenging, is now a journey of the self I crave. 8 years of on-and-off practice has taught me about my true potential and strength as a human… and gives me some cool party tricks. My true passion in yoga lies in prenatal yoga. I practiced yoga during both of my pregnancies. I believe this with meditation ultimately led me to connect deeper to my babies, my pregnancy and have an empowering birth.

Meet Mallory Green Spielman:

Hi! I’m Mallory! My journey began in 2013 after undergoing chemotherapy treatments to treat lupus and kidney disease. After researching alternative methods, I was determined to stay in remission, which led me to an eastern approach to heal. I have maintained my health ever since and am eager to help others find wellness and healing through yoga and mindfulness. In 2018, I took the leap and did my teacher training at Sunshine Yoga Shack. I have always wanted to help people and found my calling through teaching. You can feel the passion and big-love energy in every class I teach. My favorite styles of yoga to teach are Vinyasa, Yin, and Crystal Sound Bowl Meditations. When not teaching, you can find me hanging out with my husband and two beautiful boys, taking care of my plants, and catching up on my favorite music and movies. I believe in the power of community and connection, and I strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone who steps onto the mat. My classes are not just about physical postures but also about cultivating inner peace and balance. I love seeing my students transform and grow, both on and off the mat.

Meet Melissa Werner:

Hi, I’m Melissa. After 35 years of working in retail banking and wealth management, I have ventured into my next chapter where I’m doing all the things that nourish my soul. My days are now dedicated to the joys that truly matter to me: working in the yard, riding my bike, or sitting outside reading a good book. I often say that I’m like a plant - I thrive on sunshine and water. Family is my heart. Spending time with my two grandsons fill me with laughter and gratitude, reminding me of life’s simple pleasures-each moment with them is pure delight. Yoga has been an anchor through it all. Whether teaching, practicing, or studying yoga-it’s not just a practice to me; it’s a way of being-mindful, present, and connected. I’m deeply committed to inspiring wellness through movement and mobility, meeting each student where they are on any given day. My approach is rooted in compassion, encouragement, and a belief that yoga is for every body. I look forward to sharing this journey with you, inspiring peace, strength, and joy on and off the mat.

Meet Dr. Micki Washburn:

Hi I'm Micki, I am a 200 hour RYT certified yoga instructor with a specialized focus in trauma-informed practices and yoga for athletes. With a compassionate, grounded approach, I create inclusive, supportive spaces where students can reconnect with their bodies, manage stress, and build resilience through mindful movement and breathwork. As a lifelong sports fan and former athlete, I can teach you ways in which the integration of yoga into your training routine can enhance overall physical and mental athletic performance. Drawing on my extensive clinical training in trauma-informed mental health care and additional training in trauma-informed yoga, I am dedicated to offering accessible practices that honor personal agency, promote emotional regulation, and support holistic healing. Whether in a studio, on the field, or in community settings, I am passionate about helping people use yoga as a tool for empowerment, recovery, and lifelong well-being.

Meet Shante' Russ:

Hi! I’m Shanté and I’m a certified yoga instructor as well as an aerial yoga instructor and sound meditation practitioner. I’ve been married to my wonderful husband for nearly 20 years and we have two amazing kids and the sweetest English bulldog. In addition to being an instructor at Sunshine, I’ve also been a romance author for the last 13 years and have written over 60 books. I also run a crochet business where I make all kinds of custom crochet things from cozy blankets to stylish wearables. I also do live sound baths on TikTok. I was first introduced to yoga after giving birth to my daughter nearly 19 years ago. I stumbled across a Yoga for Weight Loss DVD at a store and purchased it. I had no clue at the time that yoga would impact my life so much. Before finding the studio, I discovered aerial arts while researching for a book I was writing. One day I got an email for a Groupon for an aerial yoga class at Sunshine Yoga Shack and I immediately purchased it and booked my first class. And I was instantly hooked. I came for the aerial (which I absolutely love), but I stayed because of the yoga. I’ve tried so many other types of workouts, but I’m always drawn back to yoga. It wasn’t until I found Sunshine Yoga Shack that I began to truly practice yoga. Where I truly learned how transformative it can be not just for the body, but for the mind and spirit as well. I learned that yoga comes in many forms from the physical practice to meditation (one of my favorites) down to simply just breathing. My practice on the ground has been a huge aid to my practice in the air when it came to aerial yoga and I love both of them immensely. And I love the people of Sunshine Yoga Shack as well. They welcome you in and you don’t become just a student, you become family…the studio becomes a haven, a home away from home.
