Stepping Back into Your Power

Walking into the studio this week felt different. Maybe it was the familiar hum of the heaters warming up the room, or the way my mat seemed to settle under my feet like it had been waiting for me. Either way, teaching my first Hot Vinyasa class since the accident (my big break and surgery) stirred something in me I didn’t realize I’d missed. I still can’t put weight on my wrist, yet the moment I began to guide that room with my voice, breath, and presence, I felt powerful in a way that didn’t rely on strength at all.

Power shows up quietly like that. It doesn’t always roar; sometimes it whispers through resilience, through the willingness to return, through the courage to try again.

As I moved through that class, a memory surfaced—those early days when yoga first slipped into my life. Back then, I was a young mother of three, juggling a whole lot of everything and barely noticing the ways I was disappearing inside the chaos. Yoga didn’t change me overnight. It shifted me in tiny, almost unremarkable ways at first. A deeper breath here. A steadier choice there. But over time, that slow and steady practice led me back to my own power, long before I even recognized it happening.

I really did notice a shift happening inside me. It wasn’t that yoga was changing me; it was giving me the vehicle to finally grow into who I was meant to be — and then some. My body was getting stronger and more flexible, sure, but the real magic was in the mental strength rising to meet it. It felt like my whole self was waking up. A fog was being lifted.

So this week, I want to ask you something I’ve been asking myself:
What makes you feel powerful?

  • Maybe it’s stepping onto your mat even when your day has been a mess.
  • Maybe it’s choosing rest instead of pushing past your limits.
  • Maybe it’s showing up for a friend, moving your body in a way that feels good
  • Or maybe it’s simply remembering that you matter.

Power doesn’t have one shape. It isn’t defined by handstands, chaturangas, or physical strength. It’s defined by presence. By intention. By the tiny choices that anchor you back into who you are.

Yoga gives us a space to rediscover that. Each breath becomes a reminder that our strength isn’t gone—it’s just evolving. Every pose teaches us something different about how we meet the world and how we meet ourselves.

As I step back into teaching, I’m feeling that evolution fully. It’s humbling and energizing at the same time. And honestly? It feels good to admit that I’m still learning, still adapting, still finding new ways to feel strong in this healing body of mine.

My hope is that your mat and our studio give you that same opportunity. A place to remember your power, reclaim it, and redefine it whenever life demands a new chapter.

If you feel called, write to me and tell me what makes you feel powerful right now. I love hearing your stories, and they remind me that this community truly grows stronger together. Email me at lynn@sunshineyogashack.com.

Here’s to rising, healing, and stepping boldly into the versions of ourselves that we’re becoming.
