Breathing new life into our bodies and into historic buildings with our new location.

There’s something magical about history, isn’t there? Whether it’s an old building, a piece of art, or a tradition, the past has a certain weight and wonder that we can’t help but feel drawn to. And yet, as much as we appreciate the beauty and significance of what came before us, we also know that sometimes, things must be revitalized to stay relevant and meaningful.

Our beautiful new space has sat empty and neglected for many years. Watching Eric Rozak with Viridian Construction breathe new life into this historic old building has been a passion and adventure. The Historical Society of Mansfield found the above pictures of 127 North Main. Originally, Abner Pyles owned this building in 1859. In 1898, the building burned to the ground. You can even see the buckets used to put out the fire in the above picture. In 1900, the building was rebuilt with the brick we see today. The picture from 1907 shows the busy crowd on Market Day.

We signed our lease for the old building in March and got our permit to begin work in May. Eric and his team put in long hours in the heat to bring the old building into a new age. We are so proud of our space. Thank you, Viridian.

Aerial rigging

You might have noticed our beautiful new ceilings with the original tin tiles. The ceiling and roof were replaced about 20 years ago. Above the tin is an engineered rafter system of 2×8 ceiling joists intersecting for double stability. Additional vertical wood members were added to the roof system to reinforce the aerial rigging. Ten-inch heavy-duty galvanized steel 5/8 eye bolts drilled through the ceiling joist long ways and secured into place with an oversized fender washer, a steel lock washer, and a lock nut to make sure the mounting for each of the fabric rigs is extremely secure. You only see the eye of the bolt hanging below the ceiling.

Our carabiners are rated for rock climbing and weighted for 2000-5000 lbs. Every silk has a specialized spinner for aerial rigging with galvanized steel o rings. A few aerial silks have specialized sling loops from aerial essentials with a tensile strength of 5000lb to add a few extra inches for those who like the silk a little lower to the ground.

All rigging will be checked weekly by me to ensure everyone stays safe. If you have any questions or comments about the rigging, please feel free to chat with me about it.

Yoga and New Life

As a practice that’s been around for thousands of years, yoga certainly has its roots in the past. But unlike some traditions that become stagnant over time, yoga has continued to evolve and adapt to the needs of modern people. By combining the best of both worlds – the ancient wisdom of the past and the dynamic energy of the present – yoga has become a tool for breathing new life into our bodies, minds, and spirits.

One way that yoga helps us bridge the past and present is through its focus on breathwork. Many yoga classes begin with pranayama or breathing exercises, which serve to both center the mind and energize the body. By paying attention to the breath and learning to control it, we gain a deeper sense of connection to our life force, or prana. This allows us to tap into a source of vitality that has existed throughout history but that we may not have been fully aware of until now.

In many ways, yoga embodies the power of the past to inspire and invigorate us in the present. By honoring the traditions and wisdom of those who came before us, we’re able to find meaning and purpose in our own lives. By adapting those traditions to our changing needs and circumstances, we’re able to create something new, vibrant, and enduring. So whether you’re stepping onto the mat for the first time or you’ve been practicing for years, remember that you’re part of a long and rich legacy of yoga practitioners. And by breathing new life into this ancient practice, you’re also breathing new life into yourself.

Autumn Equinox Yoga + Meditation +Sound Bath

Sunshine Yoga Shack’s new location. 127 North Main St 76063

Saturday September 16th 6:00pm – 7:30pm

Join Mallory for this 90-minute Autumn Equinox class celebrating the changing of seasons. We will start out with a yin yoga practice, allowing the body to release and settle into our yoga nidra meditation. Then, we will enjoy the sounds of the therapeutic crystal bowls. Sound therapy is based on the idea that every part of your body creates a vibration that resonates in a certain way.

Sound healing works by sending sound waves throughout the body, helping restore balance at a cellular level. During sound meditation, the client starts out in a beta state (thinking), moving into an alpha state (passive), and finally into a theta-deep relaxation state. The benefits include nervous system restoration, better sleep, increased brain wave frequency, and decreased stress and anxiety. Feel free to bring blankets, pillows, essential oils, or anything else to make your practice more comfortable. All levels are welcome! Mallory Green Spielman is an E-RYT 200 Certified Sound Bath Practitioner, Aerial Yoga Instructor & Reiki Master.

Saturday September 23th 7:00pm – 9:00pm

Join us on the first day of fall to shake off the dog days of summer with friends, music, yoga, dance, and, most importantly, fun!  Bandhas are energy locks located throughout the body that act as valves, blocking and unblocking energy throughout the body, allowing us to direct and redirect the energy within us.  Yoga, movement, and dance allow us to engage our bandhas and connect to our bodies.  Join Jessica along with the House Music stylings of Tim Funatik for a fun-filled evening of music and yoga along with as much or as little dancing as your heart desires.
