Bloom big this spring and expand your horizons. Growth is not always easy. In fact, it can be downright uncomfortable, but it is essential if we are to thrive as human beings. Whether it’s personal growth, career growth, or the growth of our yoga practice, making space can be the key to unlocking our full potential.

Bring to mind the image of a flower — as it grows, its petals unfurl more and more, exposing itself to the world. Likewise, we need to give ourselves the space and the conditions to unfurl and allow our big, beautiful blossoms.

bloom big

So, how can we make room? It requires cultivating space in both our personal lives and yoga practice.

Embrace change.

Growth requires change. We cannot expect to grow if we cling to our old ways and habits. To make room, we need to be open to new experiences, ideas, and perspectives. It’s natural to feel a bit uneasy at first, but try to lean into discomfort instead of shying away from it. Allow yourself to step out of your comfort zone.

If we eat the same food, go to the same places, and do the same things day after day, our lives can become stagnate, much like the plant that has lived in the same pot for too long and has no room for expansion. Eventually, her leaves will sag and wilt.

Let go of what no longer serves you.

Just as a gardener would prune a plant to encourage growth, we, too, must let go of what is holding us back. This may mean decluttering your physical space or letting go of unhealthy relationships. It may also mean letting go of limiting beliefs and negative self-talk.

Often our yoga practice, when we move into a difficult posture, we will hold our breath. Our bodies will shake, and we will limit our growth physically. By leaning in and breathing deeply with pranayama, our bodies respond and release what is limiting us energetically. This process allows us to blossom in the posture.

Create a support system.

Surround yourself with people who will encourage and support you. This can be in the form of mentors, coaches, therapists, or a supportive community. We all need someone in our corner to cheer us on. These people will help to lift you up when you need them and keep you accountable for your goals.

Practice self-care.

To grow, we must care for ourselves physically, emotionally, and mentally. Self-care practices like yoga, meditation, and exercise can help us feel more grounded, focused, and energized. Give yourself permission to take a break when you need it, and be kind to yourself in moments of perceived failure or setbacks.

Cultivate your mindset.

Finally, we need to shift our perspective. Rather than viewing mistakes as failures, view them as opportunities for growth and learning. Embrace challenges with optimism and curiosity. Recognize that growth is a process, and it takes time and effort to develop new skills and habits. Brandi Simpson said in Saturday morning’s yoga class, “Climbing and falling look similar, just at opposite speeds and in different directions.”

Growth requires space, support, and a willingness to let go of what no longer serves us. This may require making some uncomfortable decisions and embracing change, but the rewards are worth it – a more fulfilling and purposeful life. Through cultivating a growth mindset and incorporating self-care practices, we can create a fertile ground for blossoming in our personal lives and our yoga practice. Remember, growth is not a destination but a journey – one that we can all embark on with room to bloom big.

Earth Day Yoga, Nidra & Sound Bath

Join Mallory for this 90-minute Earth Day class celebrating Mother Earth. We will start out with a yin yoga practice allowing the body to release and allowing us to settle into our yoga nidra meditation. Then we will enjoy the sounds of the therapeutic crystal bowls. Sound therapy is based on the idea that every part of your body creates a vibration that resonates in a certain way. Sound healing works by sending sound waves throughout the body, helping restore balance at a cellular level. The benefits include deep relaxation, better sleep, increased brain wave frequency, and decreased stress and anxiety. Feel free to bring blankets, pillows, essential oils, or anything else to make your practice more comfortable. All levels are welcome!
