A Different Approach

Over the past few weeks, I have had the privilege of meeting yoga teachers from various disciplines, each with their own unique approach to the practice. These encounters have deepened my appreciation for the diversity within yoga and reinforced my own teaching philosophy—yoga as a moving meditation.

At its core, yoga is an ancient practice designed as a journey within, a way to connect with your spirit and the highest version of yourself. However, not all yoga is the same. Many practices today focus primarily on the physical body, emphasizing alignment, strength, and even aesthetics. While there is value in physical practice, yoga extends far beyond the poses we hold.

Sunshine’s yoga invites us inward. When we break down the practice, we find the Eight Limbs of Yoga—not a linear set of steps, but a holistic path guiding us deeper into self-awareness and inner peace. By moving from the external to the internal, we ultimately discover bliss—the state where we find harmony within ourselves.

For those seeking a deeper connection through their yoga practice, here are a few tips:

  • Feel the Poses – Instead of focusing on how the pose looks, focus on how it feels. Allow your body to guide you into an intuitive and authentic experience.
  • Feel the Breath – Your breath is your greatest teacher. Syncing breath with movement turns your practice into a meditation, anchoring you in the present moment.
  • Connect with Yourself – Let go of external distractions. Silence the mental chatter, release self-judgment, and be fully present in your practice.

Yoga is not about perfection; it is about presence. Each time we step onto our mats, we are given the opportunity to reconnect with ourselves, to quiet the mind, and to cultivate inner peace.

May your practice be a journey inward, leading you to the serenity that already exists within you.
