I remember doing half moon pose about 15 years ago; something magical happened. I had practiced yoga for many years, but every yoga class was full of effort and struggle. This time, however, I felt the energy in my body line up, and I felt like I could float. After that, I was always trying to create that sensation again. Soon almost any time I was on my mat, I had a deeper connection with myself. I floated into and out of all of the poses with ease. My yoga practice became a dance, a flow with my energetic body.

Now I know and understand I was releasing the blocked energy that was weighing me down.

Have you ever felt like there’s a heaviness in your body that you just can’t shake off? Maybe you’re feeling emotionally blocked or dealing with unexplained physical pain. These sensations could be a result of blocked energy in your body. The energy body is a concept around which yoga revolves, and it holds the key to unlocking various physical and emotional imbalances we experience in our lives. Let’s try and explain why we have blocked energy, what happens when we have blocked energy, and how yoga, reiki, and sound healing can help us heal.

Energy is a force that surrounds us, shapes us, and connects us all. Everything that exists vibrates with a unique frequency, whether it’s a tiny electron or a massive star billions of light-years away. From the smallest building blocks of life to the vast expanse of the cosmos, energy is the driving force behind it all.

Why Do We Have Blocked Energy?

Blockages in our energy body can result from many things, including stress, emotional turmoil, poor diet, or a sedentary lifestyle. All of these can lead to stagnation in our energy flow, which can manifest as physical symptoms such as chronic pain or emotional symptoms like anxiety or depression. Furthermore, when we don’t address these problems, they can become larger health issues later. So, it’s essential to be mindful of our energy body and take steps to unblock it.

What Happens When We Have Blocked Energy?

When energy blockages occur in our body, it can lead to a domino effect of emotional and physical issues. It disrupts our chakras, the energy centers in our body, and they regulate the flow of different organs and emotions. The blockages in our chakras can result in inflammation, pain, or emotional instability. It’s like having a dam in a river. The water can’t flow correctly, eventually becoming an unhealthy swamp. Similarly, blockages can result in severe health issues that require attention.

Can Yoga Help with Blocked Energy?

Yoga can be a gentle and nurturing practice that can help release energy blockages in our bodies. It can also be a form of movement to stimulate energy movement. Yoga poses such as twists and hip openers can help alleviate stress on the body and unblock any stuck energy. Practicing yoga postures also helps improve blood circulation and digestion, allowing energy to flow smoothly in the body. Meditation and breathing exercises can also help calm the mind and stimulate the flow of energy within the body, thereby freeing energy that has become stagnant.

What is Sound Healing?

Sound healing is the therapeutic application of sound frequencies to the body and mind to create a state of balance and harmony. The human body is made up mostly of water, and sound waves travel faster in water than in air (up to four times faster). Therefore, when specific sound frequencies are applied to the body, they vibrate and create a resonance that can break through blockages, remove negative energy, and promote wellness. Sound healing uses singing bowls and other instruments. This is why we play the singing bowls after every class.

Can Reiki Help with Blocked Energy?

Reiki is another alternative healing technique that’s believed to help release blocked energy. Reiki practitioners use gentle touch or movement through the aura, which is the energy field surrounding our body. The practice helps identify areas of blockage in a person’s body and stimulates the natural healing process. Reiki can help people gain focus and clarity and can help release physical pain or emotional traumas. Reiki also helps produce a deep state of relaxation, thus fostering a connection with yourself and your surroundings.

Reiki is a Japanese stress reduction and relaxation technique that promotes healing. The practice is based on the idea that universal energy is present in all living things that can aid in healing. We offer Reiki Training this June; find out more below. There are three levels of Reiki practice:

Prenatal Yoga

Join Carrie for a 5-week prenatal yoga series. Each class will be 75 minutes with 35 minutes of slow flow and strengthening yoga followed by yin and yoga nidra. This class will be centered around changing the pregnant body and increasing stability while also relaxing the mind for optimal pregnancy and childbirth. The benefits of prenatal yoga include decreased stress, increased happy hormones, better sleep, increased lung capacity, and increased stability. Carrie is a 200hr RYT, Reiki Master, Prenatal Yoga & Doula Certified.

Arm Balance Workshop

Take your practice upside down with yoga inversions and arm balance poses! This fun and challenging workshop will teach you how to approach a variety of arm balances with greater confidence and ease. The class will include a Vinyasa-style warm-up, a breakdown of the most popular yoga arm-balance poses, and savasana with a sound bowl bath. 

Intro to Yoga with Lynn

Join Lynn on Saturday, May 20th, at 1:00 for an informative and enlightening workshop to help you understand the basics and fundamentals of Yoga. How to practice and how it works.

Intro to Aerial

Are you curious to try Aerial Yoga for the first time or want to establish a solid foundation in this unique practice? This workshop is designed to give you a clear foundation of Aerial Yoga while having lots of fun! 

Intro to Aerial will take you to new heights with yoga asanas practiced with the suspension of the aerial hammock. Class is structured for those new to aerial yoga and who want to feel the stretch and benefits of yoga with the support of the silk holding you up. 

Class includes a warm-up, a guided sequence of asanas in the silk, and is followed by a floating Savasana and sound bath.

Summer Solstice Sound Bath

Join Mallory for this 90-minute Summer Solstice class celebrating our inner power and light. We will start out with a yin yoga practice allowing the body to release and settle into our yoga nidra meditation. Then we will enjoy the sounds of the therapeutic crystal bowls.

Sound therapy is based on the idea that every part of your body creates a vibration that resonates in a certain way. Sound healing works by sending sound waves throughout the body, helping restore balance at a cellular level. During sound meditation, the client starts out in a beta state (thinking), then starts to move into an alpha state (passive), and finally into a theta-deep relaxation state.

The benefits include nervous system restoration, better sleep, increased brain wave frequency, and decreased stress and anxiety. Feel free to bring blankets, pillows, essential oils, or anything else to make your practice more comfortable.

Sunshine School of Yoga is a Register School with Yoga Alliance and is Accredited with 200 Hour and 300 Hour Certifications Requirements. You will be able to advance your designation with YA upon completion of this training program.

Reiki helps us shed old layers of conditioning and releases trapped energy in the body to help us connect to ourselves at a deeper level. A Reiki treatment helps you move trapped energy to heal the energetic body. Reiki Level One Attunement will help you open your body and heal yourself using your own energy. Reiki Level Two Attunement will open your energy to heal others with Reiki energy. Master-level Reiki Attunements are offered by private session only.
