What do you know about chakras? Chakras are energy centers in our body that allow prana or vital energy to flow freely throughout our body. There are seven main chakras in our body and hundreds of smaller chakras. The root chakra, located at the base of the spine, is the first chakra that we will focus on. A blocked root chakra or Muladhara can cause various physical and emotional issues, but luckily, yoga and aerial yoga can help us heal it.
The root chakra is located at the base of the spine and represents our connection to the earth and our sense of security. This chakra is associated with red and connected to our survival instincts. Think to yourself, “I am!”. You are here, and you deserve to be here. When our root chakra is blocked, we may feel anxious, stressed, or disconnected from ourselves and others. We need to reconnect with our bodies and feel grounded to heal the root chakra. Yoga is an excellent way to achieve this.
The shadow of the root chakra is fear, and we can block this energy center by simply being afraid. Overcoming what you are scared of will release any blockages.
In the cartoon Avatar, the Last Airbender, the Master tells Aang, “Energy flows through the body like a river. You must gain balance within yourself before you can bring balance to the world.”
Yoga and the Root Chakra
Numerous yoga poses can help us heal the root chakra, including standing poses like Mountain Pose, Tree Pose, and Warrior I. These poses help us feel grounded and connected to the earth. Additionally, forward bends like Standing Forward Bend and Child’s Pose can help us release any tension in our hips, which is where the root chakra is located. Any pose where you send energy into the earth can help open this center.
Aerial Yoga and the Root Chakra
Aerial yoga is another great way to heal the root chakra. The practice involves performing yoga poses while suspended in the air with the help of aerial hammocks. Inverting the body will dislodge stuck energy, stimulating the root chakra and helping us feel more grounded.
Pranayama and the Root Chakra
Breathing techniques or pranayama can also help us heal the root chakra. The most effective technique for the root chakra is the visualization of the breath coming into the nose and sending it down to the base of the spine. Then, exhale slowly, feeling the breath travel back up the spine out of the body, releasing what you do not need. This technique helps us feel more grounded and connected to our bodies.
Sound Healing and the Root Chakra
Mantras or sound vibrations can also help us heal the root chakra. The root chakra’s associated sound is “Lam.” To use this mantra, sit comfortably and repeat the sound “Lam” while focusing on the base of the spine. This can help us feel more connected to our bodies and more secure in our lives. Say to yourself, “I am, I am strong, I am worthy, I belong.”
Remember, the root chakra is the foundation of our energy system. Energy flows up, and neglecting this region will cause issues in all the other energy centers. Healing the root helps us feel more grounded, connected to our bodies, and secure in our lives.
