FIRST CLASS FREE when you download the Sunshine Yoga Shack app.

Guess who’s back at the studio this week? This girl! I am feeling good, and I am ready to hit the reset button on my body and my life. At the end of November, I had a complete hysterectomy, and I have spent the last month healing. Over the next few weeks, I will use the eight limbs of yoga to get back into my body and my practice. I hope you come along for the journey.
I am so proud to announce a virtual way to learn more about yoga. Yoga is so much more than postures alone. You can watch this quick informative video on our app under free videos or follow this link. Also, there is a 30-minute Introduction to Yoga class you can take from your phone.
I stumbled across Deepak Chopra’s book; Living the Light, Yoga for Self Realization. It is a six-week reset to help you find your best self. As a yogi, every new year, I rededicate myself to my practice using the Eight Limb path to yoga. In the next few weeks, I will bring some of these concepts into the studio.
The eight limbs of yoga offer ancient; yet timeless wisdom for living an ethical and meaningful life with purpose and intention towards oneself and others. By incorporating these practices into your everyday life, you will be able to cultivate inner peace while also deepening your connection with yourself, others around you, nature, and your spirit. Whether you’re just starting out on your yoga journey or have been practicing for years – understanding these eight limbs will provide a strong foundation for your practice. Keep in mind that your yoga practice is not linear. Take what works for you out of the eight limbs, and over time, you will see progress physically and mentally.
This week we will focus on the first limb, Yama. Yama has five precepts that represent our moral code of conduct in relation to others, as the book describes our social intelligence. It includes Ahimsa, which is the practice of non-harming or doing no harm to yourself or others. This can include physical violence as well as mental/emotional harm. Treat everyone, including yourself, with kindness. Satya is the practice of speaking truthfully; it teaches us to be honest without deception or dishonesty. To speak your truth. Asteya means refraining from stealing, which includes physical objects and intellectual property, such as ideas or information that belongs to another person. Also, not stealing time and energy from ourselves and others. Act unselfishly and without envy. Brahmacharya is the practice of purity, living with pure thoughts and intentions. Aparigraha is the practice of non-greed and non-attachment, which reminds us that material possessions do not bring true happiness or contentment; instead, we should learn to appreciate what we have instead of always wanting more than we need.
