Home is where the heart is, and the heart chakra is the key to unlocking the love and light in our lives. It is at the midpoint of our energy channels, with one foot grounded in the reality of our physical world and the other foot in the spiritual realm. We have set up our new yoga home and infused it with the energy of the heart chakra. This week will explore the purpose and power of the heart chakra, the significance of love and self-love, and how we can balance this energy center to experience greater harmony and joy in our lives.
The Heart Chakra
Anahata Chakra is the fourth of the seven primary chakras in our body. The color green represents it, and its name in Hindi means “unstruck” or “unbeaten,” referring to the resilience and infinite potential of our inner being. The heart chakra is linked to our relationships, emotions, and experiences of love and compassion. When this chakra is in balance, we are able to express love and receive love in return, feel connected to others, and experience a sense of peace and joy in our hearts. On the other hand, when the heart chakra is blocked or imbalanced, we may experience emotions such as jealousy, resentment, or isolation.
One essential aspect of the heart chakra is the relationship between our self-love and our love for others. We cannot truly love others if we do not first love ourselves. Self-love means accepting ourselves as we are, without judgment or criticism, and committing to our own well-being and growth. It is not selfish to prioritize our own needs, for this enables us to be more present and giving to others. When we love ourselves, we radiate that love outward toward others, and we are better able to forgive, support, and uplift those around us.
Another essential element of the heart chakra is the experience of grief. When we lose someone or something we love, it can feel as though our heart has been torn apart. Grief is a natural human response to loss, but it can also become stuck in our energy channels, causing imbalances or blockages in the heart chakra. To heal from grief, we must allow ourselves to feel the full range of emotions, including sadness, anger, and frustration. We can also use practices such as meditation, yoga, or journaling to process our emotions and connect with our inner selves.
To balance the heart chakra and embrace the love and light within us, there are several practices we can try. For example, we can practice heart-opening yoga poses such as camel pose, cobra pose, or bridge pose, which help to stretch and strengthen the muscles around the heart and lungs. We can also practice cultivating gratitude by writing down what we are thankful for in our lives and expressing appreciation to those around us. Other practices include spending time in nature, engaging in acts of kindness towards others, and expressing our feelings through creative activities such as painting, singing, or dancing.
The heart chakra is a source of infinite potential and resilience within us. When we nurture and balance this energy center, we can experience greater harmony, joy, and love in our lives. By embracing self-love, connecting with others, and healing from grief, we can awaken the power of the heart chakra and live from a place of compassion and kindness. Whether we are new to yoga and spirituality or seasoned practitioners, the heart chakra invites us to open ourselves up to the world’s possibilities and live from a place of love and light.

Autumn Equinox Yoga + Meditation +Sound Bath
Sunshine Yoga Shack’s new location. 127 North Main St 76063
Saturday September 16th 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Join Mallory for this 90-minute Autumn Equinox class celebrating the changing of seasons. We will start out with a yin yoga practice, allowing the body to release and settle into our yoga nidra meditation. Then, we will enjoy the sounds of the therapeutic crystal bowls. Sound therapy is based on the idea that every part of your body creates a vibration that resonates in a certain way.
Sound healing works by sending sound waves throughout the body, helping restore balance at a cellular level. During sound meditation, the client starts out in a beta state (thinking), moving into an alpha state (passive), and finally into a theta-deep relaxation state. The benefits include nervous system restoration, better sleep, increased brain wave frequency, and decreased stress and anxiety. Feel free to bring blankets, pillows, essential oils, or anything else to make your practice more comfortable. All levels are welcome! Mallory Green Spielman is an E-RYT 200 Certified Sound Bath Practitioner, Aerial Yoga Instructor & Reiki Master.
