Some people reach their prime in high school, or so I have heard. That was not true for me. In my mind, I am still striving to achieve the “prime season” of my life. This past week Michelle Yeon won the Oscar for best actress. She passionately said, “Do not let anyone tell you-you are past your prime!” I felt that deep in my soul.

Being in your prime can be a state of mind or a mindset. After a great yoga practice, we experience a state called “yoga buzz.” Sometimes flowing with your breath as you move through yoga postures can help you achieve this heightened state of being. Maybe these are the moments we are in our prime. We are humans. We do not expire like a jug of milk.

What Does it Mean to Be in Your Prime?

Being in one’s prime can signify several things, and it primarily means operating at your highest potential or peak. This state is often associated with accomplishing goals, showcasing your best attributes, and experiencing success. However, being in your prime isn’t a universal concept, and different people reach it for various reasons and at distinct stages of their lives.

Who is in Their Prime?

“Being in your prime” often evokes images of people in their late twenties or early thirties who seem to have their lives figured out: successful careers, fulfilling relationships, and a confident demeanor. Nevertheless, the reality is that anyone can be in their prime regardless of age. It ultimately depends on one’s mindset, goals, and circumstances. A teenager who excels academically and socially may be considered in their prime, as well as a retiree who has found their passion and is thriving in their golden years.

Is Being in Your Prime Age?

While being in your prime is commonly linked to youth and physical capability, it isn’t exclusively tied to any specific age. It’s not unusual for people to reach their primes at different points in their lives, depending on their pursuits and passions. The key is to recognize that everyone’s journey is unique, and there’s no set formula or age bracket that signifies the absolute peak of one’s life. For some, their prime may come early in life with immense success or fame; for others, it could arrive later as they gain more experience and wisdom.

Can Being in Your Prime Be in Your Mind?

Absolutely! In fact, your mindset plays a significant role in determining whether you are truly experiencing your prime. A proactive and positive attitude can make all the difference in how you approach your goals, overcome challenges, or even how to perceive your own abilities. Moreover, a growth mindset encourages you to seek new opportunities and strive for continuous improvement. By fostering this mindset, you pave the way for achieving your prime and experiencing the profound effects that come with it.

Finding My Prime with Yoga!

When I am consistent in my yoga practice, I notice my whole life seems easier. This is not something only I feel. Any practicing yogi will tell you they feel the same. If you look at the eight limbs of yoga, the ultimate goal is to find a state of bliss called Samadhi. You feel connected to all things, and you feel as if you are the best version of yourself. That state should be considered finding your prime. It doesn’t matter how old you are or your physical ability. What matters is being the best YOU can be.

Profound Effects of Finding Your Prime

How can finding your prime affect your everyday life? You are more relaxed mentally. You take things as they come, and do not allow them to ruin your peace. You sleep better at night when you know you have done your best. You breathe deeper and are less anxious about everyday life. You have better digestion and a lower heart rate. You find moments of mental clarity. Yes, all of these are benefits of yoga as well. 😉
