We often cling to control. We cling to the way we think it should be. We cling to the past. The heat of summer clings to fall. As we resist life changes and the evolution of time, it can become a fight against the natural flow of our lives. This can cause us frustration and anxiety.
Yoga teaches us to find strength and beauty in surrender, to let go of resistance, and to embrace the concept of letting go. There is a term in our Yoga Sutras and our Eight Limbs of Yoga for this process called Isvara Pranidhana. It is the last NiYama in the first limb of yoga.
By incorporating the concept of Isvara Pranidhana into our yoga practice, we can learn to release our grip on our desires and allow life to unfold in its own way. The power of surrender can help us cultivate trust, faith, and inner wisdom.
The Art of Surrender
Isvara Pranidhana is one of yoga’s five niyamas or personal observances. It translates to “surrender to a higher power” or “devotion to the divine.” In essence, it means letting go of the need to control and trusting that there is a greater force at work in our lives. We gain a sense of peace and purpose by surrendering to this force. As we surrender on our yoga mat, it encourages us to let go of our attachments and to connect with a deeper sense of meaning and our own inner wisdom
Finding a sense of surrender in your yoga practice can be a beautiful way to deepen your connection with yourself and the world around you. Here are some tips on how to do so:
- Begin each practice with a moment of gratitude or devotion.
- Focus on our breath. Surrendering requires a deep sense of presence and mindfulness.
- Practice acceptance. When you encounter challenges or difficulties in your practice, try to accept them as part of the journey. Trust that everything is unfolding exactly as it should.
- Let go of control. Instead of trying to force your practice, allow it to unfold naturally. Release your attachment to certain poses or goals and be with whatever arises.
- Cultivate trust and faith. Throughout your practice, notice any moments of resistance or fear. Cultivate trust and faith in the journey instead of giving in to these emotions.
In the end, surrendering is a practice that can lead to greater beauty and wisdom in our lives. When we let go of control and allow life to unfold naturally, we tap into a deeper sense of purpose and connection. We learn to trust in the universe and ourselves and discover a tool for growth and transformation. The beauty and wisdom of surrender lie in its ability to help us find resilience, flexibility, and innovation in the face of life’s challenges. So take a deep breath and surrender to the journey – trust that everything is unfolding exactly as it should.

September is National Yoga Month! In honor of #nationalyogamonth, Sunshine Yoga Shack is doing a 30-Day Yoga Challenge to encourage everyone to get on their mat and take some time to nurture their mind, body, and spirit. Every day, get on your mat and practice! If you can’t make it into the studio, incorporate breath, mindfulness, or movement into your daily routine.

Breathe Into Sobriety

Join Jordan and Mallory for an afternoon of yoga, sound bath & share circle. This is an all-level class open to everyone. We will shine a light on what “sobriety” means to us and share our journey, tips, and tricks on how to navigate a world where alcohol is so prevalent. You do not have to abstain from alcohol to attend this class. Please come if you are looking for a sober community, want to show your support, or are curious to hear other people’s stories. Non-alcoholic drinks will be provided, and the last 30 minutes of class will be spent socializing and sharing.

Sunshine & The Historic Mansfield Business Association is thrilled to announce a remarkable partnership with Toys for Tots, the delightful city of Mansfield, Mansfield Commission for the Arts, Visit Mansfield, and Mansfield ISD for the Annual Haunt the Block in Historic Downtown. Sunrise Sound Bath & Power Flow

Join Mallory for an energizing sunrise power flow and sound bath. If vinyasa style yoga is not your jam, this class is a perfect way to ease into a brief power practice ending with an invigorating 30-minute sound bath. Sound meditation is based on the idea that every part of your body creates a vibration which resonates in a certain way. Sound healing works by sending sound waves throughout the body helping restore balance at a cellular level. The benefits include deep relaxation, better sleep, increased brain wave frequency and decreased stress and anxiety. Feel free to bring blankets, pillows, essential oils, or anything else to make your practice more comfortable. All levels welcome!
Experiencing anxiety, lack of motivation, or brain fog? Looking for a safe space to talk about mental health? This class will begin with tuning into your body via gentle yoga poses and breathing exercises, followed by recognizing and releasing stored emotions in areas of the body. This practice will give you another tool to release emotions both in the studio and on your own! We will finish with a share circle to deepen our experience and connect with others so you no longer feel alone in your journey. Join Melissa,a Licensed Professional Counselor and registered Yoga Teacher for a relaxing yoga experience to release negative energy in the body and connect with others about mental health.
Are you looking to get out of your head and into your body? Join Lynn in this two-hour workshop as she guides you through the ancient art of Thai Body Work, which is designed to calm the mind and help release tension from the body.
Using mindful pressure points and gentle rocking motions, partners will be encouraged to let go of stress and reconnect with themselves and their partners.
Wear comfortable clothing and bring someone you feel comfortable touching. Each partner will have a turn as we move through a sequence of techniques to move the body in a relaxed environment.

Sunshine School of Yoga
Start your Transformation at the Sunshine School of Yoga.
If you have a deep passion for yoga and a desire to inspire others, the Sunshine School of Yoga is the perfect place to set yourself on your path to becoming a yoga teacher. Our programs provide a solid foundation in the art and science of teaching yoga, equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to guide others through this practice.
We will meet one weekend a month, and training is Hybrid. We use the best of both worlds to bring you yoga training to fit your busy life schedule. Our training gives you the accountability to keep you on track and access to the Lead Trainer you need.
We are an RYS-200 Registered School with the Yoga Alliance, and when you complete all of the requirements, you can register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT-200.
Sunshine’s Hybrid 300-Hour Training begins in January, and we will meet one Saturday a month from 1:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This training is for Yoga Teachers who have completed a 200-hour training program.
All other requirements will be met virtually. We are an RYS-300 Registered School with the Yoga Alliance, and when you complete all of the requirements, you will receive your RYT-300 certification.
