The importance of focus where, in today’s world, it can be hard to concentrate on where we want to go and what we want to do in our lives. We are constantly bombarded with distractions, from our phones to the demands of our work and personal lives. This lack of focus can cause us to feel stressed, anxious, and unproductive. Sometimes, we do nothing because there is too much to do. Yoga can teach us how to stay on track, harness our energy, and achieve our goals in all aspects of life.

Focus on Dristi

The practice of “dristi” is one of the fundamental principles of yoga. Dristi means “gaze” or “vision” and refers to the direction of our focus. By controlling our gaze, we can harness our energy and achieve a deeper level of concentration. In yoga, this is often achieved by focusing on a specific point, such as the tip of the nose or the space between the eyebrows. Practitioners are taught to maintain this focus as they move through different poses, helping them to stay grounded and balanced. Finding that perfect spot on the wall can help you to master any balance pose.

Focus on San Kulpa

A San Kulpa is a deep intention or goal that is set during a yoga nidra class. The idea is to plant the intention in your subconscious mind, allowing it to continue to replay until the goal is achieved. By setting a San Kulpa, you help to train your mind to stay focused on your goal, making it much easier to achieve. It will become the little voice in the back of your head telling you which direction to go to keep you on the right path.

Maintaining Focus on Tapas

Finally, it’s important to recognize that maintaining focus and discipline is crucial when it comes to achieving your goals. In the eight limbs of yoga, we call it Tapas. Consistency is key, whether you are trying to improve your physical practice or working towards a professional goal. Establishing a routine, setting small achievable tasks, and practicing mindfulness can all help you to stay focused and disciplined. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and achieving your goals takes time and effort.

These tools of yoga not only help you on the mat but also train your mind. With practice and patience, you can develop a stronger sense of concentration, reduce stress, and ultimately achieve your goals.

September is National Yoga Month! In honor of #nationalyogamonth,  Sunshine Yoga Shack is doing a 30-Day Yoga Challenge to encourage everyone to get on their mat and take some time to nurture their mind, body, and spirit. Every day, get on your mat and practice! If you can’t make it into the studio, incorporate breath, mindfulness, or movement into your daily routine.

LAST DAY TO REGISTER IS SEPT 15th. Are you interested in performing in Sunshine’s 7th Annual Aerial Showcase? Register to be a performer; there are limited spots this year. The cost is $100, and you will be invited to attend all open gyms and practice sessions. You will get help with your routine, so you are amazing. You must attend two yoga classes a month, be at the dress rehearsal, have your performance approved by Lynn, and have a lot of fun!

Autumn Equinox Yoga + Meditation +Sound Bath

Saturday September 16th 6:00pm – 7:30pm

Join Mallory for this 90-minute Autumn Equinox class celebrating the changing of seasons. We will start out with a yin yoga practice, allowing the body to release and settle into our yoga nidra meditation. Then, we will enjoy the sounds of the therapeutic crystal bowls. Sound therapy is based on the idea that every part of your body creates a vibration that resonates in a certain way.

Sound healing works by sending sound waves throughout the body, helping restore balance at a cellular level. During sound meditation, the client starts out in a beta state (thinking), moving into an alpha state (passive), and finally into a theta-deep relaxation state. The benefits include nervous system restoration, better sleep, increased brain wave frequency, and decreased stress and anxiety. Feel free to bring blankets, pillows, essential oils, or anything else to make your practice more comfortable. All levels are welcome! Mallory Green Spielman is an E-RYT 200 Certified Sound Bath Practitioner, Aerial Yoga Instructor & Reiki Master.

Bandhas and Beats

Join us on the first day of fall to shake off the dog days of summer with friends, music, yoga, dance, and, most importantly, fun!  Bandhas are energy locks located throughout the body that act as valves, blocking and unblocking energy throughout the body, allowing us to direct and redirect the energy within us.  Yoga, movement, and dance allow us to engage our bandhas and connect to our bodies.  Join Jessica along with the House Music stylings of Tim Funatik for a fun-filled evening of music and yoga along with as much or as little dancing as your heart desires. 

It’s not yoga, but it feeds the soul. Join us as we celebrate the visual. We will have art from many local artists, snacks, drinks, aerial performers, and conversation. 

Breathe Into Sobriety

Sunday October 1st 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Join Jordan and Mallory for an afternoon of yoga, sound bath & share circle. This is an all-level class open to everyone. We will shine a light on what “sobriety” means to us and share our journey, tips, and tricks on how to navigate a world where alcohol is so prevalent. You do not have to abstain from alcohol to attend this class. Please come if you are looking for a sober community, want to show your support, or are curious to hear other people’s stories. Non-alcoholic drinks will be provided, and the last 30 minutes of class will be spent socializing and sharing.

Float and Fly with Lynn

Are you ready to take your yoga practice to the next level? This float-and-fly workshop teaches you how to practice arm balances and inversions for a truly energizing experience!


Gain strength, balance, and control while learning to defy gravity and amplify your energy. Lynn will be your guide to ensure you can safely move in and out of these postures.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of music and yoga.  Jessica will lead a relaxing candlelight yin yoga session, perfect for that much-needed time to slow down, pause, and ease those tired muscles.  To further delight the senses, we are excited to be joined by the acoustic musical stylings of local Fort Worth musician Andrew Skates.  Wine, chocolate, and a nonalcoholic beverage will be provided.  This will be a night to remember, perfect for a date night, whether it’s with your significant other, a group of your favorite friends, or just a night to treat yourself.  

Glow Aerial Yoga

Join Té for a fun-filled Saturday night of flowin’ and glowin’ at Glow Aerial Yoga on October 21st! Wear your favorite glow-in-the-dark outfit or Halloween attire, and get ready for an hour of aerial yoga that will light up the sky! We ask that you do not wear zippers or jewelry in the fabric for your safety and to please bring socks. This class is for all levels.

Thai Body Work

Are you looking to get out of your head and into your body? Join Lynn in this two-hour workshop as she guides you through the ancient art of Thai Body Work, which is designed to calm the mind and help release tension from the body.


Using mindful pressure points and gentle rocking motions, partners will be encouraged to let go of stress and reconnect with themselves and their partners.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring someone you feel comfortable touching. Each partner will have a turn as we move through a sequence of techniques to move the body in a relaxed environment.

Sunshine School of Yoga

Start your Transformation at the Sunshine School of Yoga. 

If you have a deep passion for yoga and a desire to inspire others, the Sunshine School of Yoga is the perfect place to set yourself on your path to becoming a yoga teacher. Our programs provide a solid foundation in the art and science of teaching yoga, equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to guide others through this practice. 

200-Hour Training at Sunshine

We will meet one weekend a month, and training is Hybrid. We use the best of both worlds to bring you yoga training to fit your busy life schedule. Our training gives you the accountability to keep you on track and access to the Lead Trainer you need.

We are an RYS-200 Registered School with the Yoga Alliance, and when you complete all of the requirements, you can register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT-200.

300-Hour Training at Sunshine

Sunshine’s Hybrid 300-Hour Training begins in January, and we will meet one Saturday a month from 1:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This training is for Yoga Teachers who have completed a 200-hour training program.

All other requirements will be met virtually. We are an RYS-300 Registered School with the Yoga Alliance, and when you complete all of the requirements, you will receive your RYT-300 certification.
